Thistle Port Dickson review
Went there within this week for dinner. Of course went there with high hopes as Thistle is an international chain. The hotel is located in Teluk Kemang a few kilometers passed the polytechnic.
From the main road, make a right turn and go further in another hundred meters. The road and entrance to the hotel was mystical. Amazing subtle lighting with a grand foyer. The open air lobby concept is a great layout to enjoy the evening breeze.
We had our dinner at the restaurant, still between buffet and ala carte. That night, they were catering for a group of of people coming in for a course, so food was more limited. The usual price for a buffet here is RM78++ but that night it was reduced to RM58++. Buffet food available was ulam and sambal, and tomato soup, and rice, prawn curry, mee goreng, beef rending, and some chicken, fish keropok, and and about 4 types of desserts. No Western, Chinese or Indian food available.
Most of us had chosen ala the carte.
Dish 1 : Burger
So the portion of the burger was quite surprising. I was expecting American-sized burgers. The ones that came were 2 kid-sized burgers put into a plate as one dish, and with fries in the middle. Mind you, I am not talking about burger Ramly 's size. This is a kid's size.
Dish 2: Tenderloin steak with mushroom sauce.
Dish 3 : Black pepper steak.
As for the steak, and don't bother ordering the next time. You should try something else. If you are used to American-sized portions, good steaks from TGIF, Victoria Station and Tony Roma's. Even the taste and tenderness is nowhere near. The best food on the plate then was the mash potatoes.
Buffet friends weren't impressed with the food. So did the ala carte friends.
What can we say is that we were not expecting smaller portions of the food. Food was not that tasty. There were some a lot of flies flying around despite being indoors. We had to request for a candle to be put in the centre of the table. One friend jokingly said " You know you are in PD when there are flies, even in 4- 5 star hotels". The candles came quite fast so I'm guessing we are not the first group of to complain abt the flies. Service was very slow. That night there was only one lady working. Everybody else were students doing other things . Only this lady and one student was occasionally serving. Two friends were having buffet did not get their plates removed from the table. They had to remove it themselves. In fact the side table was wrongly placed. According to the etiquette, it should be placed on the left, but theirs were laced on the right.
